Wayando Beach Eco Lodge on Rusinga Island has been promoting sustainability since its opening in 2011, with a focus on permaculture practices. Our goal is to create a harmonious blend of sustainability, biodiversity, and natural beauty while providing a relaxing and enjoyable experience for our guests.

To achieve this, we prioritize the preservation of birds and wildlife, along with organic gardening, composting, and recycling. Our composted sawdust toilets are waterless, contributing to our aim of a safe, clean, and trash-free island environment. You can immerse yourself in the tranquility of the surroundings, counting birds or enjoying a good book while feeling the refreshing lake breeze. Our lawns offer a space for recreational activities such as kicking a ball, and our comfortable chairs provide the perfect spot to soak up the sun.

If you’re interested in learning more about the flora and fauna, we offer garden tours where you can discover the various trees and plants that grace our lodge. As our guest, you can expect peace, relaxation, good company, and the opportunity to indulge in cold beer. Come and explore all that our lodge and Rusinga Island have to offer.

We also organize guided hikes to the Ligongo and Wayando mountain viewpoints, where you can appreciate breathtaking vistas. For a more leisurely experience, you can safely embark on a self-guided walk to the nearby fishing villages, immersing yourself in the local culture.

Accommodations at Wayando Beach Eco Lodge cater to your family’s needs. Our rooms, located in Bandas, come with unique styles and names, allowing you to choose the one that best suits your preferences.

All our toilets utilize sawdust composting, and for added privacy and solitude, outside toilets are available to all guests. Each room is equipped with electrical outlets to charge your devices, in-room toilets and showers, towels and body wash, fans, reading lights, and reading materials.

Daily maid service ensures cleanliness, and linens are changed upon request. Composting toilets are emptied twice daily or upon request. Hot water showers are available in every room, and a solar outdoor hot shower is also accessible to all guests. Free Wi-Fi is provided throughout the lodge.

Our rates at Wayando Beach Eco Lodge are based on a per-person basis. The bed and breakfast package is priced at 4,900 Ksh or 49 USD per person. Half board, including breakfast and another meal, is 5,900 Ksh or 59 USD, while the full board package with all meals included is 6,900 Ksh or 69 USD. Please note that exchange rates may vary. Additionally, we offer complimentary Wi-Fi access for our guests.

We are often asked about our connection to Rusinga Island. The story of Wayando Beach Eco Lodge is displayed on the wall behind the bar. Linda Campbell Tilton from Washington, D.C., and Thadayo Olewa Okatch, 1961 airlifted from Rusinga sponsored by Tom Mboya, were married in 1965 in Kansas, and their son Otieno was born in 1967. Wayando Beach Eco Lodge is a tribute to their unfinished love story. Linda Campbell Tilton is available to answer any questions you may have.

Come and be our guest at Wayando Beach Eco Lodge, where sustainability, natural beauty, and warm hospitality create an unforgettable experience.
